PÓSS
The PÓSS project consists in the design of a modular hollow element, ventilation block or cobogó, an essential component in architecture since the beginning of the 20th century. This allows light to permeate the interior of buildings, as well as allows for permanent natural ventilation and solar protection. Taking into account the characteristics of our climate, this project aims to rescue this element in architecture in Cape Verde.
The design of the module in PÓSS is inspired by one of the four elements of the iconography of the spur used in the Pano Bitcho. This drawing is here reinterpreted through a stylization of a flying bird.
The pattern consists of a module with three variations of the design of this 'bird', corresponding to a difference of three scales, in which each one assumes a balanced proportion in the square frame of the face of the ventilation block. Each module also has a concavity that defines four faces of the diagonals of that same square. It is these diagonals that underline in the whole a perception of diagonal square, characteristic in the work of traditional cloths.
The application of PÓSS can be both outside and inside buildings. It is the game of variations and repetition of the module that creates a rhythm of forms, provoking a perception of different approaches of birds. Multiple possibilities of pattern construction are released, allowing unexpected light and shadow effects of PÓSS flight in the created environments. Multiple possibilities of pattern construction are projected, allowing unexpected light and shadow effects of PÓSS flight in the created environments.
