MORNA INTANGIBLE HERITAGE OF HUMANITY LOGO

The logo for the Morna World Heritage nomination has been given the name 'Abraço d'Sodad'.

This Cape Verdean musical genre has taken its identity to the world, projecting the words and feelings of longing, love, pain, emigration and the sea, among others, into the universal ear. It was from this relationship with the world that this logo was conceived, especially with regard to the figurative mark.

Identifying the symbolism associated with morna, the figurative mark brings together three dimensions:

- The central circular core and the exterior that represent the island's isolated relationship with the world;
- The six strings of the guitar that vibrate from its acoustic hole, promoting openness and dialogue with the world;
- The invisible embrace that follows the paths of the sea, love, emigration and nostalgia.

"This symbolism is also associated with the color blue, which intensifies calmness, peace, love, honesty, kindness, truth, inner peace, and emotional depth characteristic of morna. The work base is strongly inspired by Luísa de Queirós' artwork on Vasco Martins' vinyl cover Universo da Ilha."
