This project proposes the reinterpretation of the traditional popular dwellings in Santo Antão - a mark that tends to disappear from the local landscape - as an exercise of memory and identity of its people.
It is a study of a bungalow typology, with autonomy in terms of functioning, but integrated in a bungalow network that includes a base support structure. The landscape and the topography invite to mountain tourism and that is the target public.
The project is based on the morphology of this type of dwelling, a rectangular plan with two floors and in accordance with the principles of economy in construction. The stone structures and a new skin, in wood (inside and outside) make the dwelling reborn in a new language, without losing its original identity and inherent relationship with the landscape. Inside, the redefinition of the living space separates the social program - kitchenette, bathroom and living/sleeping space on the ground floor, from the bedroom on the mezzanine.
